Hey, I’ll be honest, the movie attempts to have the mental fortitude required to take its deeper themes to the next level. The movie itself feels torn between the two extremes. Moments of quiet contemplation mixes into the bombastic battle scenes, but neither of them act to uplift the other. That is my largest gripe with this movie, and my deepest annoyance over all. For the era, we have come to expect that from anything involving CGI.Ī very long story short 009 Re: Cyborg doesn’t quite know what it wants to be. There is some very questionable CGI in this story to be sure… but then again, there are moments when the animation isn’t entirely awful… you’ll get a mixed bag when it comes to visuals. Honestly, I have to wonder what Production I.G and Sanzigen could have been thinking. There are moments where the animation dips fairly low. That said, I don’t personally like this movie. If you do that, you probably won’t hate it as much as I do. My best advice is set your expectations low going into it. Given just who was involved with this movie (this has to do with the Ghost in the shell rant), I expected more than what I got. I wasn’t able to do that because I went into the movie entirely blind, and to me it was a waste of my time. You just have to understand what you’re getting into. That said the movie is entertaining to a point. As far as clean narratives are concerned, that’s a problem. She is great on the eyes and definitely makes the movie more watchable than it otherwise would have been. There’s no subtlety here, it’s all much too overbearing. One reason my concentration was maintained was due to Mayuko Iwasa starring as 009-1. I'm generally not into action movies - they tend to be very formulaic and their action scenes unoriginal - but this seemed different and kept me interested. Main focus, of course, is on the action scenes, and they come thick and fast. Pretty basic storyline, though with enough twists and turns to keep you interested. Reasonably entertaining sci fi action-drama.

Her employer blames 009-1 and suspends her.

However, while under her protection, her creator, Dr Klein, is kidnapped. She is good at her job, eliminating many of the West's enemies. Mylene Hoffman is an undercover agent for the Western Block. J-Country is the border between the two powers.

It is some time in the future and a new world order has emerged, pitting the Western Block against the Eastern Block.
